The iCare Foundation is a vast proponent of VIVITROL (naltrexone for extended-release injectable suspension), a non-addictive, once-monthly treatment proven to prevent relapse in opioid dependent patients when used with counseling following detoxification.

Vivitrol block receptors within the brain associated with the “high” or euphoria that comes from the use of opioids such as heroin, Oxycontin and many other narcotic pain medications.  Because Vivitrol blocks opioid receptors in the brain but does not activate them, there is no abuse potential and no withdrawal symptoms upon ending treatment.

Before starting VIVITROL, you must be opioid-free for a minimum of 7-14 days to avoid sudden opioid withdrawal.  Vivitrol is also used to treat alcohol dependency when  used in conjunction with counseling.  The iCare Foundation provides financial assistance to individuals in recovery for Vivitrol treatment.

For more information on Vivitrol visit www.vivitrol.com.  If you are interested in Vivitrol, contact your healthcare provider or the iCare Foundation for treatment centers in our area.
